FAQs about Nantcol

Can I bring a Dog?

Yes, we are happy to accommodate well behaved dogs. No more than 3. Please remember we are in sheep country and all owners are totally responsible for their animals. There will be a small charge of £10 per dog payable with the final rental demand. All dog ‘poo’ must be removed from the premises.

Children

We are delighted to welcome children of all ages. We provide a good cot with mattress but no bedding for it. There is also a high chair and plastic plates.

Children of all ages must be careful of the stone walls and as owners, we are not responsible for injuries incurred at Nantcol either by climbing walls or falling into streams.

Booking Conditions

Bookings are from 4 pm on Saturday to Saturday 11 am.

At the time of booking a 50% deposit will be required with the balance some 6 weeks before your holiday. A further refundable deposit of £100 will be required to cover electricity usage, coal and any breakages. The balance will be returned as soon as your ‘fuel sheet’ has been received by us.

We do offer 3 day lets (minimum) out of season. Please enquire about prices etc.

Entertainment

We are unable to receive full television due to difficult reception in the mountains. However there is a TV for playing DVDs. There is quite a selection at Nantcol.

There is an extensive library of books at Nantcol. Any that you bring up and finish and do not wish to take home will be gratefully received into the Nantcol library. There are many board games, jigsaws, chess, drawing pencils and outdoor cricket and boule sets.

There is also a BBQ for your use.

Electricity

We ask that you read the meter on entering and when you depart. A special form will be sent with your final instructions.

Telephone and WiFi

There is a land line at Nantcol. There is an honesty box for all local calls. If you make longer and expensive calls we would recommend you make those through your credit card.
Free Wi-Fi. There is limited mobile phone reception to be found on the way down the valley towards Llanbedr.

Food

We recommend you bring enough food to cover your first weekend. There should always be a small amount of sugar, tea, coffee, S&P at the house. We ask guests on leaving to make sure they leave a small amount of above for people following.

Supermarkets can be found at Portmadog – Tesco, Aldi, Lidl. Barmouth has a good Co-op and in the village of Dryffry Ardwydy there is an excellent butcher in the Spar. To be recommended.

Packing for Nantcol

All sensible country clothes with extras for small children who will in many cases dabble in streams and get wet! There is a washing machine. Wellies and walking boots are recommended.

Nantcol does not have central heating so come with plenty of sweaters and good sensible shoes. Once the fires are lit the house becomes very cosy and snug also helped by the electric Aga. Coal is provided and charged at cost. Logs can be bought locally.

In the summer we recommend you bring sun screen and insect repellent.

Swimming towels are not provided and house towels are not to go to the beach.
